Hot off the press:

10 benefits of infrared yoga.

This weekend I made a huge upgrade to my yoga studio that I’ve been wanting since we opened in 2020: infrared heat panels.

I wish you could hear my excitement as I type this — I have been waiting to share this news with all of you for a while now! We have one more step left to complete the installation, then we will get these babies fired up!

If you aren’t yet aware of the health benefits of infrared heat, I share those below, but first — I want to share my deeper why with this investment, one that is rooted in my love for our incredible yoga community at The Studio:

Increased Health and Wellbeing

This is something we all want, whether we practice yoga or not. Who doesn’t want to feel great every day, be free of illness, feel mentally clear, energized, and confident in the life they’re creating?

For me, yoga checks all the boxes — the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual facets of our wellbeing. While I do strength train 3-4 times per week (and highly recommend everyone integrate this for overall musculoskeletal wellness), practicing yoga brings in the element of self-awareness in a way that other movement modalities do not. It invites us into the present moment to let go of judgment, cultivate self-compassion, accept where we are, learn about ourselves, and love ourselves completely — just as we are.

Over time, this compounds, having profound transformational effects on our mindset and quality of life. When I discovered this for myself in 2009, I knew immediately that I wanted to give this gift back to anyone open to it. I wanted to encourage everyone to try it out — because yoga truly is for everybody — it’s a highly modifiable practice.

When I opened The Studio, my desire to give this gift back to others grew exponentially as I began building a community of my own that I could support directly.

These infrared heat panels are so much more than a good sweat and elevated yoga class experience. They have incredible health benefits that I am so pleased to bring to my community. They will truly take our practice and each students’ personal wellbeing to the next level. Here’s why…

10 Benefits of Infrared Yoga

1. Penetration: Infrared heat penetrates the skin more deeply than traditional heating methods like convection heat. This deeper penetration reaches muscles, joints, and tissues, providing therapeutic effects.

2. Pain Relief: Infrared heat therapy is often used to alleviate pain from conditions such as arthritis, muscle strains, and injuries. The heat helps to increase circulation, relax muscles, and reduce inflammation, which can relieve pain and stiffness.

3. Muscle Recovery: Athletes and fitness enthusiasts use infrared heat therapy to speed up muscle recovery after intense workouts. The increased blood flow to the muscles delivers oxygen and nutrients, helping to repair muscle tissue and reduce soreness.

4. Detoxification: Infrared heat therapy promotes detoxification by inducing sweating while penetrating deeply into the body, drawing out impurities to eliminate toxins, heavy metals, and other harmful substances through the skin.

5. Improved Circulation: Infrared heat therapy improves blood circulation by dilating blood vessels and increasing blood flow to the skin and muscles. This enhanced circulation helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to tissues while removing waste products more efficiently.

6. Relaxation and Stress Reduction: Many people find infrared heat therapy to be relaxing and stress-reducing. The warmth and gentle heat promote a sense of relaxation, which can help reduce stress, promote better sleep, and improve overall wellbeing.

7. Skin Health: Infrared heat therapy has benefits for skin health, including promoting collagen production, improving skin tone and texture, and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

8. Boosted Immune Function: Some studies suggest that regular infrared heat therapy sessions may support immune function by increasing white blood cell activity and enhancing the body’s ability to fight off infections.

9. Cardiovascular Health: Preliminary research indicates that infrared heat therapy has cardiovascular benefits, such as improving endothelial function, reducing blood pressure, and lowering cholesterol levels.

10. Convenience: Infrared heat therapy is convenient and can be easily incorporated into daily routines. Infrared saunas are a great way to bring this healing modality into your home — I recommend the mPulse Smart Sauna by Sunlighten. And of course, get to an infrared yoga studio when you can to double up on all the benefits for body, mind, and spirit!
