Intuition:
An underestimated superpower.
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.
While I agree with Einstein’s words, I also feel that this is shifting as the world continues to wake up. More and more of us are embracing the spiritual path — the path of healing, truth, consciousness, and all that is sacred.
What is Intuition?
Intuition is often described as the ability to know something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.
Intuition is sharpened by paying attention to the signals of our body. It helps us navigate social interactions, assess risks quickly, and make decisions in situations where time is of the essence and not all information is available.
Sometimes intuition presents itself loud and clear. Other times, it’s a soft whisper. It is frequently accompanied by emotional reactions or bodily sensations, such as a sense of certainty, unease, or excitement.
Intuition is valuable because it provides instant judgments without the need for deliberate reasoning or detailed analysis. It is holistic, meaning it considers the entire situation rather than breaking it down into parts, integrating various pieces of information quickly and effortlessly. In addition, intuition arises from the subconscious mind, which processes information at a deeper level than the conscious mind. This processing is based on past experiences, memories, and learned patterns that may not be readily accessible to conscious thought.
Connecting to Your Intuition
Connecting to your intuition involves developing awareness and honing your ability to listen to your inner voice. Here are some methods to help you connect more deeply with your intuition:
1. Mindfulness and Meditation
Meditation: Practicing meditation helps quiet the mind and creates space for intuitive insights to surface. Techniques like mindfulness meditation, guided meditation, or even silent sitting can be beneficial.
Mindfulness: Staying present in the moment increases your awareness of subtle cues and feelings that are part of your intuitive process.
2. Journaling
Stream of Consciousness Writing: Writing without filtering or editing can help uncover hidden thoughts and feelings, revealing intuitive insights.
Intuition Journal: Keep a journal specifically for noting intuitive hunches, dreams, and feelings. Reflecting on these entries can help you recognize patterns and validate your intuitive abilities.
3. Body Awareness
Body Scanning: Regularly check in with your body to notice any sensations or feelings. Often, intuition manifests physically, such as a gut feeling or a sense of tightness in the chest.
Movement Practices: Engage in activities like yoga or dance, which promote a deeper connection between mind and body.
4. Quiet Time and Solitude
Disconnect from Technology: Spend time away from screens and digital distractions to allow your mind to settle and your inner voice to be heard.
Nature Walks: Spending time in nature can be grounding and provide a peaceful environment for introspection and intuitive thinking.
5. Listening to Your Inner Voice
Ask Questions: When faced with a decision, ask yourself open-ended questions and pay attention to the first thoughts or feelings that arise.
Trust Your Gut: Practice acting on your first instinct in small, low-stakes situations to build trust in your intuition.
Not to disregard simple logic — we need that, too, but it’s important to have a balance of logic and intuition when it comes to living our lives and making big decisions. How is this balance currently feeling in your life? If you have been feeling confused, not sure what move to make next, or find yourself asking others what you “should” do, it’s time to pause and reconnect with your inner wisdom. Learning to trust ourselves is a practice.
For me, practices that remind me of both my physical and mental strength are most helpful in sharpening my intuition. When I feel strong, I feel confident. And when I feel confident, decision making is easier and life seems to just flow better.
