38 life lessons:
For 38 trips around the sun.
August is a special month. The 24th was The Studio’s birthday and the 27th is my birthday! The Studio just turned 4, and I turn 38 this week!
In honor of the journey called life, here are 38 lessons I’ve gathered so far that I’d like to share with you:
38 Lessons in 38 Years
1. Time is precious. Every moment is valuable, and how you spend it matters more as the years pass.
2. Health is wealth. Taking care of your body and mind is crucial; it pays off in the long run.
3. Family and friends are irreplaceable. Genuine connections with loved ones are some of the most important things in life.
4. Happiness is an inside job. True contentment comes from within, not from external circumstances.
5. Change is the only constant. Life is full of changes, and adaptability is key to thriving.
6. Failure is a stepping stone to success. Mistakes and setbacks are opportunities to learn and grow.
7. Not everyone will like you, and that’s okay. You can’t please everyone, and you don’t have to.
8. Self-care isn’t selfish. Taking time for yourself is essential for your well-being.
9. Kindness goes a long way. Small acts of kindness can have a big impact on others and on your own happiness.
10. Forgiveness is freeing. Letting go of grudges and forgiving others (and yourself) brings peace.
11. Patience is powerful. Good things often take time, and patience can make the journey smoother.
12. You are not your job. Your identity is more than your career; work-life balance is important.
13. Gratitude changes everything. Focusing on what you’re thankful for brings more positivity into your life.
14. Lifelong learning keeps you young. Staying curious and open to new knowledge and experiences is invigorating.
15. Money isn’t everything. Financial security is important, but it’s not the ultimate key to happiness.
16. Boundaries are essential. Setting limits with others protects your mental and emotional health.
17. Love isn’t always enough. Relationships require effort, communication, and mutual respect to thrive.
18. It’s okay to ask for help. Reaching out when you need support is a sign of strength, not weakness.
19. Comparison is the thief of joy. Focus on your own journey instead of measuring yourself against others.
20. Perfection is an illusion. Striving for excellence is good, but chasing perfection can be destructive.
21. Trust your instincts. Your gut feeling often knows what’s best for you, even when logic says otherwise.
22. Time with nature is healing. Being outdoors and connecting with nature is restorative.
23. You can’t control everything. Letting go of the need to control allows life to flow more freely.
24. Listen more, talk less. Truly listening to others can deepen your relationships and understanding.
25. Laughter is essential. Finding humor in life’s challenges makes them easier to handle.
26. Self-love is a journey. Accepting and loving yourself is an ongoing process that evolves over time.
27. Trust is hard to rebuild once broken. Honesty and integrity are crucial in maintaining trust in relationships.
28. Simplicity brings peace. Simplifying your life can reduce stress and increase contentment.
29. Everyone has a story. Understanding that others have their own struggles and experiences fosters empathy.
30. It’s okay to change your mind. Your beliefs, opinions, and goals can evolve as you grow.
31. Love is a verb. Love is shown through actions, not just words.
32. Rest is productive. Taking time to rest and recharge is necessary for long-term productivity.
33. Your thoughts shape your reality. Positive thinking can lead to a more positive life experience.
34. Failure isn’t the end. It’s often the beginning of something better.
35. Aging is a privilege. Growing older is a gift not everyone gets to experience.
36. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Learning to let go of minor annoyances leads to greater peace.
37. Be present. Living in the moment brings more joy than worrying about the past or future.
38. You’re never too old to dream. No matter your age, it’s always possible to pursue new dreams and goals.
Aging — the concept of time, really — is such an interesting thing. I’m amazed at how much faster it seems to move as I get older, yet it’s still moving at the same speed it always has. I truly feel excited every single day to get up, make my coffee, and have another 24 hours to experience life in this body, with the people I love.
Since things are picking up with the expansion of The Studio in various ways (big announcement coming in The Studio App on Sept 1st), I will be shifting to monthly letters — so, keep your eye out for me in your inbox!
